Q-dees (2012 & 2015)

There was so much hype about the new premise. Supposedly bigger, newer, better, wow this, wow that.
A good thing I didn't think much about this place and went to see it anyway.
Went to the old school first and it looked like a dump. Gaffer tape on the stair rails, dirty, dusty, badly lit, cluttered. Ugh!

The teachers don't speak properly and I didn't see how they connect well with the children.

Went to see the newly built place. It's not all that huge, c'mon.
Huge is like Kinderland.
The compound in Q-dees is pathethic. The children don't get to be out often enough and I think they're pretty stingy in investing in play materials. Maybe most of the money went to buying cheap doors, cheap kitchen cabinets, cheap tiles, toys from Ikea. The CCTV is for their staff, not parents to monitor the children.
Why even bother bringing up that they have a CCTV? Big deal.

The children don't get to mingle with those from other classes of different ages.
Not nice.

That guy Irwin who is the founder is lousy in selling (he was in sales before), couldn't give me answers like "What do you or the teachers do when you realize a child is sick?"
"What do you do to discipline the children?"

Generic answers given straight out from the template.
Hey, I don't care what your new place is like if I see how badly maintained the current place is.

Not convinced.
Really not convinced at all.

Update, January 2015

I gave the school a call to inquire about the hours and was told that if I am late to pick up my child, he/ she will be brought home to the principal's home in Taman Desa say after 7:30pm onwards.
I don't know if there's additional charges for this option but there is this option which is great for working parents. Transportation is available within Taman Desa. Sounds good.
I'm not sure what is the school like now or if it has a good size outdoor compound since my last visit.
If anyone has an updated info on this school, please please e-mail me or leave a comment below :)
Thanks!

  1. I find your comments very critical. I think you should open your own kindergarten/childcare centre with standards that you are suggesting with all your criticism. We as parents, our expectation have to be practical and reasonable. I feel that Q-dees Taman Desa is above average and i think from the fees that they are charging, it is a very good deal. I think De Best, ELC and Chrisdale are not as bad as you claimed.

Why don't you enroll your child into Children House in Taman Tun? With the high fees that they are charging, the standard is obviously higher but for you, with your overly critical attitude, even Children House, you will find that it is still not up to Your Standard, assuming that you can pay their high fees.

Children House's facilities are above average but unfortunately, they do not have one in Taman Desa.

    1. Thanks for dropping by and reading my posts.
Surely everyone has difference in opinion and thanks for sharing yours.
Children House, Thinkertotz, Mandarin House are some of the better ones I know of.
Which school does your child/ children go to?

    2. Are you looking around for one or perhaps know the management of the schools in TD is how you found this blog?

    3. I google kindergarten in taman desa and found this blogspot. I wonder whether you wrote this as well -http://kindydesa.blogspot.com/. We are still on a look out for a kindergarten. It is still early, my son is just 3 next year. I am willing to send my child to as far as Bangsar or Taman Tun since i am just working around there. We have friends with positive feedback on the facilities and teachers from De-best and Q-dees so i have not rule out these two in Taman Desa.

  2. Hi! Since you have researched quite a bit about the kindergartens in taman desa, do you know whether which are the ones have license? My friend told me that if those without license from the ministry of education, the kids cannot be covered by insurance. True? There are too many new ones like rapsberry, le sands, 101, sunshine, CIC -which i think it is for the malays kids who do not want to mix with other races and improve their English. Hope you can share something with me ! Thank you.

    1. Most of the schools in Taman Desa are not licensed and I also know this from the Taman Desa Association. Not sure about the insurance part, I won't comment on that till I know for sure. Let me know when you find out.
I have not checked out CIC as it would defeat the purpose of me doing so.
I may check out a few other places that I have visited before when I can spare the time to do so. Just not right now... gets me burned out going to all these places. It's OK if it's a pleasant visit (for me), otherwise, frustrating.
Where are the places that you have seen? Do share your thoughts as what I post is based on my personal experiences and opinion.

    1. Hi Tracy,
I can't comment anymore about the schools in Taman Desa. I didn't find anything I liked so I ventured out of the neighborhood. From what I know, only a few places take in toddlers less than 18 months old.
Do let me know what you find.

  5. I think for what we are paying for nowadays, it is better be a good Nursery or kindie that suits the kids and our expectations. I would pay for peace of mind at end of day. License or not, it can be checked from government website (forgot which site) as I recalled from the star newspaper as many are popping up now and then and it's best to check from valid source. Thanks for the review! Keep it up!

    1. i recently made a call to the school and they seem very helpful and accommodating. some schools don't allow parents into the school at all. some, not into the class during lessons for the fear of distractions to the other students. i am not sure why this particilar Q-dees made that rule. do you know the reasons behind it?

  8. Some schools may not allow parents into the school at certain times for many reasons. True, they could be afraid that you catch them doing something wrong or that you disapprove of, but it's also very disrupting to the class.
For example a child may be upset that his mother is there, but he cannot go play with her. Or a teacher may feel she is expected to spend '5 minutes' to answer a parent's question; 5 minutes which she should be teaching the children during her lesson which is only 30-45 minutes long.
I've experienced a parent who refused to follow the 'no shoes indoors' rule, as well as complaining aloud that the children were sitting on chairs (no freedom).

  9. Hi there, we went to look at Q-sees sometime in sept 2014 hoping to enrol our girl as hubby has heaheard good things about them. It's very academic based, with the teacher showing mountain of books per term. I was a little worried whether my girl could handle the work but suppose better to start them working hard from young. We were very close to signing up until my hubby asked about disciplines, how do they discipline a child. The teacher was reluctant to comment and said we give them sweets, if they do well. and also tell them their parents are working hard, so don't disappoint their parents. and my hubby carried on to ask if it's a very naughty child, what would they do? she replied, we will show them the cane and ask them 'do u want this?' if not, you better behave. so that was sadly the end of the discussion for us. my hubby and I do not smack or use cane on our kids, and we also do not wish others to do that to our kids. I understand that it's the norm here, or used to be in schools, and I also understand some parents are ok with it, which is of course each parent is entitled to do to raise their kids. But for us, it wasn't the right place for us. Thanks for all your blogs though! have u been to the new one atelier?

  10. We had high hopes to enrol our girl in this school too but when we asked about how they discipline their students, it was not acceptable for us. Hence the search carries on. there's a new kindy, baby atelier in wisma miramas, have u been to that?

    2. Ok I will try to set an appointment to go visit. their website looks very promising although the daycare fees are a bit too much for me :(
Visited Kinder Academy a few days ago. (used to be Rasberry) now taken over by Ms Charan, very lovely lady. fees are good! but without proper structure, I'm afraid my girl would regress. its more play based and the building needs a fresh coat of paint to reflect on the new lovely website!

    3. i had a review about rasberry and charan was one of the teachers at the taman desa branch (newly set-up then). come by again and let's hear about baby atelier.

If you would like to know more about them you can always go to their website or FB, they have weekly updates in the FB on the children routine. The fee maybe a little higher but worth your every cent. Trust me, they hired quality teachers & best is your kid is progressing well!
